ASTM Overview

The core standards under ASTM F24 are as follows:

  • F2137 Standard Practice for Measuring the Dynamic Characteristics of Amusement Rides
    and Devices.
  • F747 Standard Terminology Relating to Amusement Rides and Devices
  • F1193 Standard Practice for Quality, Manufacture, and Construction of Amusement Rides
    and Devices
  • F2291 Standard Practice for the Design of Amusement Rides and Devices
  • F2974 Standard Practice for Auditing Amusement Rides and Devices
  • F770 Standard Practice for Ownership, Operation, Maintenance, and Inspection of Amusement
    Rides and Devices.

A manufacturing audit reviews conformance to Practice F1193, which is Standard Practice for
Quality, Manufacture, and Construction of Amusement Rides and Devices (F2974-19: 7.1)

A commissioning audit is performing an inspection of equipment condition per Section 9 through
13 of Practice F1193, again the Standard Practice for the Quality, Manufacture, and Construction of
Amusement Rides and Devices and then reviewing conformance to Practice F770, the Standard
Practice for Ownership, Operation, Maintenance, and Inspection of Amusement Rides and
Devices. (F2974-19: 8.1.1 and 8.1.2)

When doing a Major modification audit, you are confirming that all documents pertaining to the modification were included in the supporting documentation needed to train, inspect properly,
maintain, and operate the ride or device per the design requirement as well as review
conformance of the operational functionality as it complies with the operational specifications
provided by the engineer, designer, or manufacturer as per Practice F1193. (F2974-19: 9.2.5
and 9.2.6)

Lastly, a compliance audit is an audit that is done annually. This audit is a review of conformance to owner/operator operations maintenance training and Inspection program per sections 5 and 8 of F2959. Also, a review of conformance of documentation and operational functionality per specifications in section 8 of F2959. (F2959-19: 7.2, 7.2.2, and 7.2.3).
