Utah Regulatory Proposals Move forward

The State of Utah Amusement Ride Safety Committee has continued to meet and address the implementation of Utah’s new amusement ride safety law. In a meeting on August 11, 2021, the committee adopted ASTM 2959-21 Section 5 for zip lines used in public settings for regulation with in the state. The proposed rule will require all zip lines not for private at home use to be permitted by the state.

Additionally the committee accepted a proposal to have ACCT ICE Level 2 Inspectors be included in the qualifications for Qualified Safety Inspectors inspecting zip lines.

This is a developing situation and these proposals will be part of a public comment process in the future. As this is developing, it is still important for owners and operators of traditional challenge courses and aerial adventure courses to remember that efforts to influence the legislature may be required to assure all sites are governed in a manor which supports success.
