Role Summary:
This full-time, year-round role is responsible to oversee the day-to-day operations of the Signature Training and Professional Services department. Providing services as needed, while working closely with both the department team members and other Signature departmental leadership. This role also is responsible for developing and growing the Training and Professional Services Department within the company growth plan.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):
Training Requirements
- Maintain and update training curriculum to meet and comply with industry standards.
- Remain current on ACCT and ASTM requirements for the Challenge Course Industry.
- Remain current on American Red Cross requirements for First Aid/CPR and Lifeguard classes.
- Remain current on industry standards of authorities for new classes added in other subject matters (areas under consideration include archery, canoeing, and AMGA).
- Remain current on OSHA and jurisdictional requirements relevant to curriculum and client sites.
Trainer Recruitment, Evaluation, and Supervision
- Recruit, interview, and hire new qualified trainers for challenge course trainings, Red Cross trainings, and other subject matter experts as needed for future added courses.
- Manage the department hiring and onboarding process
- Collect and manager trainer credentials.
- Supervise full time, part time, seasonal, and subcontractor training staff.
Payroll & Expense Supervision
- Review and approve time sheets and expenses for full time, part time, and seasonal staff.
- Communicate, teach, and confirm compliance with payroll/expense policy changes and updates.
ACCT Compliance
- Prepare department information for annual report
- Prepare department information for accreditation reviews
- Direction collection of annual training data by the department.
Client Service and Sales
- Identify and outreach to new potential clients and service areas.
- Consult with clients regarding new or ongoing training/professional service’s needs.
- Follow up with clients regarding new or ongoing needs
Training Delivery
- Conduct challenge course practitioner trainings.
- Conduct American Red Cross trainings.
- Conduct trainings in new subject matter as added to the Signature training offerings
- Conduct Challenge Course Manager (CCM) trainings.
- Conduct Associate Trainer trainings.
- Schedule, plan, and deliver Seasonal and Associate Trainer annual trainings.
Program Reviews
- Review and update Program Review documents, reports, checklists, and marketing materials.
- Liaison with marketing team regarding advertising/marketing Pro-A Services.
Document Editing and Distribution
- Ensure training manuals and modules align with Signature operations manuals and modules. Direct and supervise the creation of new training manuals and modules.
- Direct and supervise revisions and corrections of current training manuals and modules in keeping with current company policy and industry standards.
- Direct and supervise revisions of Owner/Operator documents as coordinated with other departments
- Supervise distribution of documents to clients.
Management of Training Services
- Review and update training rates and contract templates.
- Create and modify written and practical tests to comply with ANSI/ACCT certification standards.
- Liason with marketing staff regarding advertising and marketing of services.
- Coordinate with clients regarding site specific needs and scope of training curriculum.
- Schedule trainings to fit within the parameters of current Labor Laws and trainer qualifications.
- Supervise in the creation and sending of proposals and contracts and tracking pre and post training logistics.
- Coordinate the department in providing pre-training information to clients and seasonal trainers.
Review and assess post training documents from each training. - On call to respond to onsite incidents, emergencies, and other non-typical events.
Challenge Course Training
- Coordinate with other departments regarding other services offered by the Company at sites with requested/scheduled trainings.
- Coordinate with online store regarding client equipment needs at upcoming trainings and/or as identified by staff in the field.
Red Cross Trainings
- Oversee First Aid/CPR and Lifeguarding classes offered through Red Cross.
- Supervise equipment and supplies, including ordering and shipping.
Camp/Recreation Trainings
- Identify and oversee creation of new training services geared towards camps and other recreational needs, including but not limited to watersports, archery, and AMGA.
Open Enrollment Training
- Identify and recruit potential Open Enrollment training sites.
- Supervise the scheduling of open enrollment trainings.
Signature Online
- Supervise Signature Online LMS offerings.
- Oversee creation of new content and class offerings for Online and Blended Learning courses.
- Liason with marketing staff to advertise current and new offerings.
Associate Training Program
- Launch and oversee Associate Training Program.
- Identify and outreach to potential new AT sites on an ongoing basis.
- Coordinate with marketing staff for advertising/marketing of AT Program.
- Provide AT in-person verification via shadowing and annual meeting.
- Provide periodic AT check-in’s and refreshers.
- Process applications, approvals, and contracts for new AT applicants.
Supervision
Supervision Received:
- Reports to and receives general direction from the CEO and the COO
Supervision Exercised:
- Supervision over full-time department Managers
- Supervision over Training Department Administrative team
- Supervision over challenge course Seasonal Trainers, Subcontractors, and Associate Trainers
- Supervision over Red Cross Instructors
- Supervision over Other Instructors as new subject matter is added to menu of services
Qualifications
Minimum Required Education and Experience:
- 10+ years management experience in the recreational industry (or comparable industry).
- 5+ years of experience supervising others.
- Challenge Course portfolio with a minimum of 3,000 hours of challenge course facilitation, 1,000 hours of challenge course training delivered, and 1,000 hours of challenge course management.
- Broad knowledge of challenge course operation, management, equipment, and emergency response procedures.
- Knowledge of Red Cross training requirements and procedures.
- Ability to climb and work at height.
- Ability to teach various subjects including an understanding of various adult learning methodologies, ability to adjust instruction to different learning needs, and ability to manage risk to trainees.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Flexibility and ability to adjust and support an evolving industry and company
- Willing/able to travel extensively.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite including Outlook, Teams, and Sharepoint.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- College degree in Recreational Management or similar.
- Knowledge of challenge course construction and inspection.
- Red Cross Instructor/Train-the-Trainer credentials
- Knowledge of and credentials in other Recreational and Camp certification topics for future development and expansion.
- Familiarity with Monday Project Management software.
- Familiarity with Emburse Spend.
- Familiarity with Quickbooks Time.
- Familiarity with Flybook software.
- Familiarity with Canvas LMS.
- Familiarity with Cognito software.
