Now hiring for Summer 2026 — Spend your summer leading adventure, building confidence, and making a lasting impact on children’s lives at Camp Skylemar.

For more than 77 summers, Camp Skylemar has brought together talented college students, coaches, teachers, and mentors who are passionate about helping kids grow. Our mission is simple: to make a positive difference in the world, one child at a time.

We are currently seeking an experienced, energetic, and safety-focused Ropes Course Director for our 8-week residential summer camp in Maine. This is one of the most impactful leadership roles at camp and an incredible opportunity to combine adventure education, mentorship, and outdoor leadership.

Position Overview

The Ropes Course Director oversees all aspects of our adventure and challenge course program, including:

  • High and low ropes elements
  • Climbing wall instruction
  • Team-building initiatives
  • Leadership development activities
  • Safety and equipment management

Our course features:

  • A climbing wall
  • 12 low ropes elements
  • 7 high ropes elements
  • A 200-foot zip line

The director will also supervise and mentor a team of eight college-aged assistants.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and facilitate high-quality ropes course and team-building programs
  • Ensure the highest standards of safety for campers and staff
  • Conduct daily course inspections and equipment safety checks
  • Maintain inventory and oversee proper equipment usage
  • Develop lesson plans and engaging activities for campers
  • Train, supervise, and support assistant staff members
  • Create a positive, fun, and encouraging environment for children

Qualifications

Ideal candidates will have:

  • Extensive experience with ropes courses, climbing, leadership development, and team building
  • Confidence leading activities and speaking in front of groups of children
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Current ACCT Level 2 Certification or the ability to obtain certification prior to summer
