Succeed in adventure! Encourage campers to build trust in each other, face their fears and embrace adventure! Join the Girl Scouts summer camp staff. 

Where you will work:

Camp Winacka - A traditional rustic camp with spectacular views. The camp features a pool, miles of hiking trails, green building including a new environmental center and two lakes. Campers choose from programs focusing on aquatics, horses, arts and adventure. Campers and staff sleep in open-air cabins with built-in bunk beds, in platform tents with bunk beds or on cots under the stars. 

Your summer will look like this:  

  • Assist the Challenge Course Director in planning and coordinating facilitation of high and low ropes courses, oversee equipment management, and serve as a support facilitator. 

  • Teach staff and campers the skills necessary for a fun and safe experience including personal and group health and safety, care and use of equipment, emergency procedures, etc.  

  • Supervise all activities connected with the Challenge Course to ensure safety of participants, including but not limited to, executing safe and effective programming, using good judgment when making independent decisions and instructing participants in the proper use of all course elements and equipment  

  • Cultivate learning among participants and groups, including technical skills as well as the experiential aspects of the course -In conjunction with challenge course director, completes inspections and post-course reports in a timely manner  

  • Work as a team with other facilitators in planning, facilitating, operating, and evaluating the course.  

  • Develop and leads team building sessions as scheduled with Unit Staff  

  • Collaborate with unit directors and program specialists with supplies, equipment, staffing and activities  

  • Ensure that all challenge course activities comply with Safety Activity Checkpoints and ACA requirements  

  • Perform other duties, as assigned

Here is what it takes:  

  • Be at least 18 years of age  

  • Ability to work with children and staff of different ages 

  • AACT Level 1 certification required, or 2-3 years documented experience in rock climbing and/or challenge course facilitation; Level 2 is preferred 

  • At least one camp season as a unit counselor or experience supervising campers 

  • Ability to climb and withstand heights with a high comfort level 

  • Must be willing to work in an outdoor setting and live on camp premises during the summer  

  • Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification, or able to obtain certification before the first day of work  

  • Valid drivers’ license, proof of insurance and access to reliable transportation (Daily and/or occasional travel may be required. Must be comfortable driving narrow, winding mountain roads with passengers in mini or cargo vans)
