The Lead Tour Operator - Flightline performs all job assignments with a positive attitude that supports San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance's mission and vision of saving species worldwide by uniting our expertise in wildlife care and conservation science with our dedication to inspiring passion for nature and leading the fight against extinction. This position reports to the Flightline Supervisor.
The Lead Tour Operator – Flightline primary responsibilities of this class are scheduling operators and ensuring that operators are properly and thoroughly trained in safe operation of the Flightline Safari Zipline. The Lead Tour Operator – Flightline consistently demonstrates leadership qualities as well as the desire and ability to engage in positive relationships with internal and external customers while supporting and mentoring senior and non-senior staff and exercising supervisory responsibilities.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Schedules operations crew
- Trains operations crew
- Supervises and participates in the work of the Flightline operations crew
- Monitoring safe operation of equipment and machinery
- Inspects and evaluates work of Flightline operations crew
- Keeps employee time records
- Keeps logs and records of customer attendance
- Inspects ride equipment and machinery
- Reports need for repairs
- Answers questions from the public
- Provides information regarding the wildlife exhibits and plant life
WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR
A Lead Tour Operator – Flightline will report and act on any needed repairs, and effectively follows up on safety needs. CPR and Emergency Rescue Training within 90 days of hire will be provided by SDZWA.
- JOB EXPERIENCE

- Education, training and/or experience which clearly demonstrate the essential knowledge and skills outlined, Or
- One or more years of experience in scheduling and supervising the work of a small crew.
- SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of:

- Position Type: Hourly Full-Time Nonexempt Union Position – If selected there will be union fees and dues to be paid to the union.
- Hourly Wage: $24.53
