Ohio University Well-Being & Recreation is actively seeking a dynamic, energized professional eager to serve in a high impact role advancing outdoor recreation and creating a Forever OHIO experience.  The Assistant Director for Outdoor Recreation & Education at Ohio University leads a premiere, comprehensive Outdoor Pursuits program that includes Outdoor Pursuit Adventure Trips & Clinics, First Year Outdoor Orientation programming, an Indoor and Outdoor Climbing Wall, Gear Rentals, and the newly renovated Challenge Course at The Ridges. Opened April of 2025, this new high and low ropes facility now includes an Alpine Towers team Odyssey Course SkyParkwith a 650 foot long dual zipline. The Assistant Director for Outdoor Recreation & Education is positioned as an active contributor and leader within the Well-Being & Recreation team who is essential to advancing the Department's mission fostering health and well-being across the OHIO Community through inclusion, engagement and empowerment.

Job Description:
The Assistant Director of Well-Being & Recreation, Outdoor Recreation & Education provides leadership, strategic planning, administration, and day to day decision making for the safe, efficient and effective operation of a comprehensive collegiate outdoor recreation and education program within University Well-Being & Recreation. Primary areas of responsibility includes oversight and management of the Campus Recreation Indoor Climbing Wall and Challenge Course and their related operational staff, outdoor equipment rental program, adventure trips and clinics, program vehicle and trailer fleet, and team development / leadership programming. This position will cultivate strategic partnerships with Division, campus, and community constituents to support and advance the department’s mission to enhance student well-being. Additional areas of responsibility includes direct supervision of the Coordinator for Challenge Course Program, and Outdoor Recreation & Education undergraduate student personnel and two Graduate Assistant positions, develops and facilitates program policies and procedures, monitors program budget and the allocation of program resources, and establishes risk management policies. Assistant Director is expected to promote and facilitate effective communication and collaboration across all efforts of the department, division, university and community partners.
