Coordinator for Outdoor Adventures (Challenge Course)
Penn State Campus Recreation is looking for an experienced and dynamic person to join our team!
Under the supervision and direction of the Assistant Director, the Coordinator for Outdoor Adventures (Challenge Course) will serve on a team responsible for the daily operation and management of a comprehensive Outdoor Adventure program, including outdoor trips and programs, group programs, climbing operations and programs, equipment rental center, and Stone Valley Recreation Area.
Specific areas of responsibility may include outdoor trips and programming, indoor and outdoor climbing, or challenge course programming.
Specific job duties may include:
- Manage and oversee the challenge course and portable teambuilding program.
- Assist with facility management and operations of Stone Valley Recreation Area.
- Assist with Outdoor Adventures trips.
- Hire, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate student employees.
- Manage payroll for Outdoor Adventures student staff.
- Ensure proper compliance with risk management processes and protocols, programs, and operations. Maintain all risk management records according to department and University policy.
Preferred Position Qualifications:
- A master’s degree in recreation, sports management, higher education, or a related field is preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in student development is preferred.
- Knowledge of safety and risk management practices as they relate to outdoor adventures and/or facility operations is preferred.
- An ACCT Course Manager certification is required, or willingness to obtain it.
- Experience operating and facilitating high ropes courses and teambuilding programs is highly preferred.
- A Wilderness First Responder certification is preferred, or a willingness to obtain one.
- A working knowledge of software systems such as Innosoft Fusion, WhenToWork, or similar is preferred.

- Ability to foster a positive climate among a diverse group of staff, student employees, and participants.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree
3+ years of relevant experience operating and facilitating high ropes course and teambuilding programs; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted

Campus Recreation is a department within the Division of Student Affairs that provides recreation and wellbeing programs to the campus community through operation and administration of the following: Intramural Building, McCoy Natatorium, Stone Valley Recreation Area, Tennis Center, White Building, Hepper Fitness Center, Aquatics, Athletic Training, Club Sports, Fitness and Wellbeing, Intramural Sports, and Outdoor Adventures. Campus Recreation is comprised of 48 full-time staff and more than 700 student staff members.
BACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCES
This position requires the following clearances in addition to applicable background checks: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver’s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.

SALARY & BENEFITS
The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $46,400.00 - $67,300.00.
