Description & Details:
The Challenge Course Program Specialist is responsible for the safety, planning, implementation and supervision of the National Ability Center’s high ropes course, low ropes, and teambuilding programming. In addition, this position supports the recreation & adventure department with additional implementation of programming for people of all ages and abilities. A primary function of this and every other job at the National Ability Center is to ensure that each member, guest, and visitor of the National Ability Center receives the highest caliber of service.
Primary Responsibilities
- Oversee all aspects of the challenge course including inspections, course maintenance, documentation, inventory, and program implementation.
- Develop and deliver trainings for challenge course, low ropes & team building programs for volunteers, staff, and community members.
- Provide feedback in a solution driven, appropriate manner utilizing existing established means.
- Document and report all accidents, incidents, and disciplinary concerns to supervisor.
- During programs communicate instructions clearly and professionally to participants during the activity, including but not limited to providing directives, coaching technique, and feedback.
- Maintain a high level of risk management and provide safe programing for participants using both adaptive and typical equipment.
- Plan and implement personalized activities and programming for groups and individuals who may have various disabilities that are appropriate for age, population, and goals of the group/individual.
- Organize and maintain accurate inventory lists for challenge course, low ropes and team building programs.
- Maintain record of ongoing program needs, including pre-season and post-season program wrap up, maintaining equipment use logs and assisting with ongoing climbing wall and challenge course inspections.
- Support on recreation & adventure programs outside of high ropes, low ropes and teambuilding as needed.
- Work cohesively on a team with other staff, interns and volunteers.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of experience facilitating high ropes/challenge course programs
- ACCT Level 1 Certification required
- Current First Aid and CPR certification
- Knowledge of emergency rescue techniques, ability to perform rescues, and to train staff on rescue procedures
- Ability to conduct annual and periodic inspections, maintain a challenge course in excellent working condition and maintain and provide complete documentation for annual inspection
- Willing and able to tolerate extended periods in the elements including sun, snow, wind, and rain
- Ability to pass a background check
- Attend all required trainings starting in late April in Park City, UT
