Project Adventure, Inc. - Designing Therapeutic Adventure Programming

Tuesday, February 4, 2025
5:30 PM - 8:00 PM (MST)

Schools and youth programs are stretched thin when it comes to serving students who need extra support. Group work – such as boys’/girls’ groups, lunch bunches, or Tier 2 social support groups – can be a great way to provide targeted SEL services to more of our students. The group process is a powerful way to help our students develop. In this online workshop, participants will apply therapeutic adventure programming concepts and strategies to designing active and engaging therapeutic group interventions. Prior adventure facilitation experience HIGHLY recommended.

Intended Learning Outcomes:

-Understand phases of group development and learn activity models to guide groups through their development

-Utilize structure, rituals and shared values in the creation of a positive behavioral health support group experience

-Learn and use various activities and discussion techniques to help group members build trust and successfully manage conflicts

-Identify best practices in group facilitation including recruitment, curriculum design, conflict management, reflection, and transition/termination

-Design individual plans for implementing therapeutic support intervention with their population

*Meets online every Tuesday: February 4-March 11 (5:30-8:00PM ET)
