Session A: Will meet online every Thursday, starting 7/30 and runs through Thursday, August 20th.  The live online hours will be 6:30-9:30PM ET each week.

This online workshop is for interdisciplinary, K-12 educators who wish to support their students’ social and emotional development better. Participants will be exposed to a wide range of adventure-based, SEL-linked activities. They will explore strategies for applying adventure concepts to align and integrate the diverse social and emotional learning initiatives in their school.  Participants will:Participate in adventure activities that support the implementation of social and emotional learning (SEL) strategies while supporting academic content; Gain information and insight into theory, research results, and components associated with the most effective approaches to SEL programming; Develop instructional skills for specific SEL content areas such as goal setting, decision making, managing emotions, and engaging in social relationships; Explore best practices for creating and evaluating a relationship-centered school or community agency. Methodology: Adventure activities will be translated into a virtual setting through synchronous video conferencing. Other activities will be shared in writing or pre-recorded video, and participants may be asked to practice facilitating activities with students, family, or friends (in person or virtually) as part of their asynchronous work. Presentations/discussions will be aided by slides, virtual whiteboards, and other tools; reading/practice and reflection will also introduce students to SEL theory and research. Participants will have SEL instruction modeled for them, will engage in SEL activities as a group, and will learn to reflect on their professional practices through an SEL lens. Group development and positive relationships will be modeled throughout this workshop via small group work in breakout rooms, teambuilding activities, and asynchronous reflection. Participants will explore how to apply their new knowledge and skills to both in-person and virtual learning.
