ACCT and the American National Standards Institute

ACCT has been accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) as a Standards Developer. What this means is that ANSI has looked at the Procedures put forth by ACCT to develop standards, and has accredited these procedures as conforming to the ANSI Essential Requirements.  For more information on ANSI's accreditation process, see this article from the December 2006 issue of Parallel Lines.

ACCT has now submitted our standard for accreditation as an American National Standard. There was a public comment period lasting 45 days, from October 16 to November 30, 2009, during which time the draft standards were posted for download and commentary. Those comments have been collected, and are now being addressed by the ACCT Consensus Group.

As part of this process, ACCT has formulated a Consensus Group, which will provide final approval to the standard, in addition to our long-standing committees which formulate the standards with input from a wide variety of sources. Lists of the individuals serving on these committees and their contact information may be found on the web page listing for ACCT Committees.

The Consensus Group is made up of 15 people, divided equally into 3 interest groups – Users, Vendors and General Interest. ANSI requires that there be a balance of interests with no one interest or company being dominant in this group.

At the present time, 7 of the 15 members have been chosen, and these 7 will choose the other 8 from the applicant pool.

Meetings of the Consensus Group will be announced via this web page.

ACCT issues public statements about this process periodically. Those statements will also be posted here.
